Our 4-5 year old room

With elementary school just around the corner, we focus on preparing our children to be successful life long learners.  Our classroom has been created  to encourage development of the basic skills children will need to succeed in kindergarten. Lesson plans are carefully structured to accommodate varied learning styles. Some specific skills taught are how to hold pencils correctly so that they are able to successfully write their names. Other skills taught are math, literacy and science, and social and emotional skills. Sequencing and patterning are practiced, numbers are added and letter-sounds are explored. Small group activities are planned so that each child can have one on one with the teacher.

We do believe that children learn through play. Many of our lessons are taught in the play setting where children do not even realize they are being taught!  There are plenty of opportunities for cooperative play both indoors and out.
